Rooms
The farmhouse, the building hosting our hotel, is a holy place for the Basque people. It means more than a place to life, the inhabitants of it are united with their ancestors. The archaeologist and anthropologist Jose Miguel de Barandiaran, the house is “Earth and shelter, temple and cemetery, material support, symbol and common centre of the alive and death members of a family”.
Following this tack, in the Hotel Urune, we have tried to personalize the rooms and for that purpose we have taken elements of the rich Basque mythology. These elements are the consequence of a whole evolution based on beliefs and rites since Pre-history until now, leaving us a mark through legends, traditions and folklore.
The narrations appear imbued by genies, divinities of the earth and heaven, sun and moon myths.
Thus, each room keep a whole history giving sense to its name and our guest will have to discover it.
As introduction, we provide you with an extract of the history opening the door towards this magic world:
«Thousand and thousands years ago, when people started to populate the Earth, there were nor Sun, either Moon and all were living in permanent darkness worried about many genies that were coming up from the core of the Earth in form of fire bulls, flying horses, huge dragons…
Humanity was hopeless and decided to ask for help to the Earth. – Amalur (mother Earth) – they beg- we ask you to protect us form all dangers that we constantly face…:
The Earth was very busy and did not react but they insist until she attended them:
- Creatures, you ask me for help and I will do it. I will create a lightly being that you will name Moon.
And the Earth created the Moon.
